Is there a way to test the PTU or should I just replace my 22 year old one?
I have a 1990 ZX-TT with 407,000 miles. It has the upgraded PTU (and sub-harness)in 1993. About 3 weeks ago the car started running rough when turning right. Then, two days later, it started running rough all the time. I found the PTU sub-harness had fallen into the alternator pulley and chaffed a bunch of wires. This caused some grounding/arching AND overheated a couple of my coilpacks. I replaced the coil packs and the sub-harness and the car idles/revs perfectly (out of gear).
BUT, under load she sputters and stumbles to redline. She is not pulling smoothly and doesn't really get to full boost. CAn the PTU be wounded and not dead yet?
